Neck pain from phone and laptop use: easy fixes

Long hours looking down at screens strain the neck. Small posture changes can make a big difference.

Mangalam Hospital · 2 Nov 2026 · 3 min read

Looking down at a phone or laptop for hours puts extra load on the neck muscles and spine.

Signs of strain

  • Stiff, aching neck by evening
  • Pain spreading to shoulders
  • Headache starting from the back of the head

Easy fixes

  • Raise your screen to eye level
  • Hold the phone higher instead of bending the neck
  • Take a short break every 30 to 45 minutes
  • Gently roll your shoulders and turn the neck slowly

See a doctor if

  • Pain or tingling spreads to the arms or hands
  • There is weakness in the hands
  • Pain continues for more than two weeks
